 | | The popular Italian Mom-and-Pop shop on the corner of Westheimer, and now in West U, has transformed its wine list. Instead of offering the common (yet enjoyable) wines often available at your local grocery store, Paul Petronella (son/owner) has visited with local wine consultant Catherine Young of The Wine Express to offer only imports from Italy. Young's resume includes Ruggles, laidback manor, Sabine, Red Lion Pub, and new best kept secret, The Boom Boom Room.

Included in the 13 modestly priced new additions will be a Prosecco, Italian sparkling white, from Carpene Malvolti in the Veneto region of Italy. Founder Antonio Carpene is recognized as opening the first Oenology school (study of winemaking) in Italy.

Others include the Alois Lageder "Riff" Pinot Grigio which grows in the limestone soil at the foothills of the Italian Alps. Also received 87 points from Wine Spectator.

The rube Sicilia Bianco received "two bichieri" from Italy's famous food & wine magazine, Gambero Rosso. Paulie's is the first restaurant to pick this wine up in Houston.

And the Cantine Sant' Agata "Baby Barb" Barbera d'Asti received "one bichieri". Cantine Sant' Agata produced only 3,400 cases.

Nothing pairs better with Italian food than a beautiful wine produced from grapes grown in true Italian soil.

Paulie's offers itself as a venue for wine tastings as well.
